The school is a listed building and full of history and character. I personally really like this aspect. However some rooms really do need cosmetic attention. On a recent look at the school the maths room carpet is in need of replacement desperately. The school also now has a new barrier to stop anyone other than staff entering the car park. This caused problems for ourselves due to 3 neighbouring car parks having a height restriction and side streets are permit parking only. The other new negative is the school is completely cashless. If for what ever reason your bank card is stolen or lost or recently when the banks online services went down you can not update your child's lunch money as they can no longer use the cash top up machines in school. On attending a recent welcome meeting the deputy head just read from notes, didn't engage with the parents at all. It was very monotone. He only came to life when he showed us he was wearing a school tie. It was so immature and cringy. However another teacher spoke to us and she was very honest and believable. She spoke to us, not reading from notes. She explained pros and cons and gave very valuable information. She explained how everyone is individual and how they will try to make sure every student reaches their own potential what ever grade that may be. The majority of teachers were welcoming and friendly and happy to answer questions. The students were smart, polite and seemed happy to be there. I'm only rating this as a 2 because it does need decorating and i feel instead of blocking off the visitors car park the money should be spent replacing carpets that are held together with cellotape. I also think going cashless causes problems for some parents and could leave children going without food. It also worries me when the deputy head was so unenthusiastic about the school.
