I was taken aback they had no bananas to accompany the food. How can a Somali restaurant not have bananas. It's like an Italian restaurant not having pasta or a Pakistani restaurant without naan. The sugu was also very strange, and more like a little Indian tomato curry than usual Somalian sugu. However the meat was good and there was no music or alcohol.

Food was very nice; absolutely mouthwatering the best Somali restaurant - hands down ! The owners/staff were really friendly and welcoming. Only thing I would I say is the food took to long to come. (But then again good things come to those who are patient) Other than that I’ll advise anyone reading this please go to this restaurant you definitely won’t regret it.

The food is great and usually worth the wait however we waited for over an hour. They now make you pay upfront as-well without warning of the waiting times. Won’t be coming back unfortunately

The worst restaurant I've been to in terms of service. 50minutes waiting to only be told sorry can we refund you, this menu finished. Unprofessional and no customer focused service.

I’ve been eating Somali food for over a decade now, so for me it’s nothing new nor am I trying to jump on the current hype from social media. Al-Kahf is a must try place if you want high quality authentic somali food. The place is very busy and there’s often a large queue, so make sure to allow plenty of time. I opted for the Al Kahf meat feast, which comprised of a generous serving of xaniid (lamb shank), beef pieces, a quarter chicken and rice. The xaniid is by far my favourite Somali dish. Portion sizes were excellent and the lamb shank tasted both succulent and flavoursome. Price-to-quality ratio was good too. In terms of atmosphere, we were seated downstairs and it was very noisy, which made it difficult to socialise with friends. However, this was expected, given how high demand was for their food. The customer service could’ve been better (had to repeatedly ask - four times in total - for a coke can). This restaurant has the added benefit of a women’s only section. Evenings can get really busy so be aware of this if you’re thinking of taking the family. Whitechapel station is a short walk and so to is EL mosque (so you can get your mandatory prayers in). The owner is really friendly and welcoming. Overall, a good somali restaurant to check out if you’re in the East End.
