Alex did our loft conversion and I have to comment on how excellent he was throughout the whole process. We had two builders quote on the work and are so glad we chose Alex as we could not fault any aspect of the service received. The standard of workmanship was excellent, all of the workers and subcontractors were also decent, professional and friendly and reflected AJT well and also they were tidy which is important when you're living in the house being worked on. Some builders may have carried out work to the drawings without thinking but Alex would always raise any queries, apply common sense and also make proposals for different ways of doing things that were actually better. I genuinely think he cares about the end product and it's not just about a quick turnaround, minimise cost and maximize profit. There was no project manager as such so Alex and I would frequently discuss the job and iron out any technical or project issues. He was always quick to reply to phone calls and messages and nothing lingered. When it came to snagging this was simple and straightforward and in no way difficult. The cost of the project was largely in line with estimate and expectations and only really moved up as we revised the spec or had to do additional work to overcome technical constraints. This was all fair in my view. I had seen a previous project Alex had done and the feedback of that client is exactly what I am writing now. I would thoroughly recommend Alex for any building work. He was a pleasure to work with and I can't say enough good things. I've got friends in Shenfield who've had bad experiences with other builders, it can sometimes be a lottery but I can genuinely recommend AJT.

I used Alex for an extensive building project in 2017. He was difficult to work with and both over time and over budget. Additionally once finished he refused to answer any phone calls, despite chasing him repeated firstly to finish off some electric work then when the wet room he remodelled leaked within 6 months of the project. Finally it turned out recently the boilers his team fitted were fitted incorrectly and thus overtime had been significantly over worked and both melted (despite being only 4 years old) and could have burnt the house down. He also changed the trading name of his firm in 2017 (we never knew him as ajt, he traded as Hutton building services when we used him) which suggests similar issues in the past. Also he continues to use pictures of our house on his face book page, despite not asking us for permission. He also took down our comments about his work from the page. Looks like he has done that with others as several of the posts have more than one comment which are not viewable when you click on the page! Would not use him under any circumstances. Alex and his team worked on our house to complete a loft conversion, single storey extension and complete refurb throughout. From the initial meeting to talk about the plans and quote to the actual completion of the project, Alex was on hand throughout and was professional and also able to help us with names of suppliers he had used previously for us to go and review/use. We also had some tweaks we wanted to do and Alex and the team was very accommodating. I have already recommended AJT to a number of people who have asked if I am happy with the work done, and I would be happy to use them again.
