FAQ
Can you describe the types of services or events your church offers?
We are not a church. We are a charity organization called Age UK Manchester. We offer a variety of services for elderly people, such as befriending, home help, dementia support, and more. We also have second-hand stores that sell vintage clothing and other items to raise funds for our programs. What qualifications and experience do your staff members have?
Our staff members have different qualifications and experience depending on their roles. For example, our dementia support workers have training in dementia care, while our home helpers have experience in providing personal care and household tasks. We ensure that our staff members are properly trained and qualified for their positions. How do you determine the pricing of your vintage clothing items?
Our vintage clothing items are priced based on their quality, rarity, and demand. We have experienced staff members who assess the value of each item and price them accordingly. All the proceeds from the sales go towards funding our programs for elderly people. Can you provide any recommendations or tips for caring for and preserving vintage clothing?
We recommend storing vintage clothing in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight. Avoid using wire hangers, as they can cause stretching and damage to the fabric. It's also important to handle vintage clothing gently, and to avoid washing them in hot water or using harsh detergents. We recommend consulting a professional cleaner for any major repairs or cleaning needs. What percentage of donations goes directly towards the cause or program, and what percentage covers overhead costs?
We strive to ensure that the maximum amount of donations go directly towards our programs for elderly people. We aim to keep our overhead costs low, and we regularly review our expenses to ensure that we are operating efficiently. Currently, around 90% of donations go directly towards our programs, while the remaining 10% covers our overhead costs.Reviews

I'm disgusted at my treatment on Friday the 2nd June when I was with my friend in Age UK in Harpurhey, I asked the women that worked there if I could have a reduction on an item which I wanted to buy which I could have sewed because it had a slight fault with the velcro inside the item. One of them said 'it's not for purpose throw it in the bin'!! to the other woman. Aggressively. I have bought things before and had them reduced and did not expect this response. I have donated lots of items to this charity shop and didn't expect to be treated like this and will not donate again. I am disgusted.

Some of the best customer service I have experienced, they go above and beyond for their customers, even if they're really busy. They explained everything about the delivery and fees when I purchased a mattress. I would highly recommend this store.

A friend of mine went in a week ago and saw a nice couch set, she asked how much the chair that was part of it was as you could buy them separate from the actual couch, and the girl with a face like thunder said it was £50 per chair. She went in after a couple of days with her daughter and they asked again hoping that they could get a slight discount as my friend has donated a lot of items in the past, the girl said the same thing. She went in today and the same girl and another girl who worked there made her feel uncomfortable by walking up to her and her interrogating her over who her daughter was and why she brought her in. They then told her that the price of the chair has been raised to £125 for 1 chair on its own and justified it by saying that it would sell for £600 if it was brand new. Completely disgusting customer service. If that is the actual price for the chair then that is ridiculous, this is a charity shop not dfs. Edit: I went in myself and checked the price of the chair and several other other things in the shop, the chair on it's own has been raised to £125 and there were many other overpriced items. Ridiculous prices for a charity shop situated in a poor area
