  Acorn Construction did an amazing job building our side and rear kitchen extension (with utility area and shower room). They also installed new fencing and updated our garden. The 6 month project was on time and on budget and managed brilliantly by Colin. Colin and his team's work is of a very high standard. We worked closely with Colin who gave us really good advice on choices of materials and appliances. Colin and his team showed a close attention to detail and followed our brief delivering our dream house. The team were always professional, tidy, courteous and friendly.   Acorn did the building work on a loft extension and refurbishment project at our house in SE London. For us it was a big undertaking, which involved work over several months. We were very pleased with the end result, which achieved what we had hoped at the outset. Technical challenges encountered along the way were discussed and managed between ourselves, Acorn and the architect in a way that produced very good solutions. Acorn personnel were friendly and very good to deal with, and the managers were contactable, responsive and usually quick to come back to us, something which was very important to us as the project progressed. In our view the quality of the workmanship was very good throughout, and where there were options to be considered/choices to be made along the way, these were discussed and agreed with us in a way we found very helpful. Costs throughout were as quoted, with any variations due to change in specification agreed in a timely and transparent way. We would go back to Acorn for other work we might have in future, and are very happy to recommend them.

  Colin, Paul and the Acorn team transformed a rather unloved terraced house that had been a HMO into a wonderful home full of light and space. We had full confidence in the whole process, from the initial contact with and discussions between our architects and Colin and Paul, all the way through to dealing with our amendments and "extras" once the main build was completed. Everyone of the Acorn team took great pride in their work, as well as terrific care of our home. Since we moved back in at the end of June 2018, Colin and Paul have ensured everything is just as we want it, including a thorough 12-month check of the house and working effectively and efficiently - and economically! - to complete subsequent requests from us since the build. Thanks to everyone at Acorn we have a wonderful home, and we really couldn't think more of all you've done for us!

  We contracted Acorn in 2018 as a single contractor to manage a domestic extension to our Victorian, detached family home in SE12 - comprising of a single-story ground floor extension and a double story in-fill of circa 60 sqm. Ultimately this became a full whole-house renovation with landscaping, completed to an exceptional standard and sympathetic to the heritage of the house. I can fully recommend Acorn for this type of work. The quality of the finishing and attention to detail throughout was excellent. Colin’s (owner / main contact) communication was well structured from the quote stage until sign off and his team were professional and courteous throughout. They demonstrated patience with our specific requests and were willing to think creatively. Examples: • Acorn’s quote: In contrast to competing quotes which used the simplistic template provided to them, Acorn created a bespoke, more detailed, full itemized quote which allowed for a better discussion /negotiation than their peers. This was an immediate indicator of their enhanced professionalism. • Clear communication: particularly as a novice, this was key. Acorn kept us up to date with progress on a weekly basis and their written and verbal communication was clear and they helpfully provided clear guidance. Where unexpected items arose, they informed us of these immediately and worked with us to find a suitable and reasonable solution. • Of note – we had originally planned to live in the property for the duration of the renovation – setting up a temporary kitchen in another part of the house etc. Colin was clear with us that this was possible, and he was very happy to work on this basis but with a young family it would be very stressful - we ultimately decided to rent elsewhere for a period. This advice was given whilst still tendering and other competing bid were far more flippant (not wishing to compromise getting the order). In retrospect it would have been a disaster to stay in the house and this conversation helped us to make the right decision. Candidness upfront on this and other issues saved pain further down the line • Modified the original plans to achieve a combined brick / exposed steel finishing. • They provided numerous options for cost savings where the initial plan could be modified. • When we uncovered an unknown cellar, they found an elegant solution for the opening hatch which ensured it became an interesting feature whilst maintaining the neat continuity of the parquet flooring • Installed a Victorian tiled hall floor with a fine and detailed finish • Their handling of suppliers was great and avoided the need for us to get involved with every aspect of the build. • They had an extensive list of recommended suppliers for all fixtures and fittings which was a helpful guide but also were able to manage the all the other suppliers we selected. • Management building control’s onerous requirements very well Renovation can be stressful and challenging process, so it is important to select the right partner with whom you can develop an understanding - If you are considering a domestic extension and wish to achieve an excellent build I can recommend Acorn.

  We could not recommend Acorn Construction more highly. Our experience has been pain free with the most professional, helpful, and caring contractors we could have hoped for. They gave us a spectacular and better than we could have hoped for finish on our extension. Our project manager was Colin Forrest, who was always on the end of the phone with advice, helpful information and often going over and above the call of duty. His team were efficient, respectful, tidy and any thing that did not go to plan was always dealt with quickly and fairly. We have a first class finished project now and would highly recommend Acorn to anyone wanting a whole service rather than just a job.
