I get weekly texts saying they’re closed due to staff sickness etc then today closed for covid vaccinations. If you can’t find staff to keep open for a full week then why are they closing for a vaccine that isn’t even needed anymore! ??

Was it the receptionist who run this surgery now? They are the one who decide for who will be seen by doctor?

Booked an appointment after waiting on the phone for almost an hour, then they tell me when I turn up that they have no record of an appointment being made.

Like many others it's impossible to get through on the phone. Even the queue is full and when diverted to voice mail that's engaged. Ironically my need for an appointment is in response to their request for me to get a blood test. Interestingly you can't book an appointment online but you can book plenty of paid for services. It appears that our NHS surgeries are being privatised by stealth. I recently had a shoulder issue and my inability to get an appointment forced me to go private. Lucky I could afford it but millions can't. I don't blame the surgery... Since I moved to Romsey 25 years ago the local population has increased considerably yet there are no more NHS doctors that there were then. Of course there are plenty of private GP practices now, at least one in Romsey. No issue getting appointments there but we then pay twice. Once to the state and then again to the private sector. It seems like the direction from above is to run the NHS to the bottom forcing people to go private. And so it goes on. What a shame.

As I have just read in lots of posts dated over a year ago that people can be in a que for over half an hour, to then be cut off when it's thier turn..Well this is still happening!! I have been ringing for 2hrs now, constantly in a que cut off or told the que is full. Discussed

This surgery is diabolical. Trying to get an appointment on the phone is a total waste of time so decided to queue outside for opening time hoping to get an appointment only to hear a very rude receptionist bad mouthing patients. She obviously forgot the window was open as the blind was down. It’s obviously the receptionist that runs the surgery and decides who can and can’t get seen.

Unfortunately, having been registered as a patient at Abbeywell Surgery for 3 years, my experience has been very disappointing. I have very little confidence in booking doctors appointments as it is and whilst registered at this surgery I couldn’t even get my foot in the door. I would spend 45 minutes (as a minimum) on the phone waiting to speak to someone to book an appointment but was never able to do so, aside from once in the 3 years. As a teacher, in a working week it is tricky to spend this amount of time on a phone, waiting for an answer. Despite trying to book a smear test, I was unable to due to the fact that I was ‘not priority after COVID’ but then was chased via post to book my smear appointment on two occasions, following my first attempt. I tried again but to no avail. I am now a year overdue. Finally, in the week before last, I received notice via email that I had been removed from the surgery’s patient list as I was an ‘inactive patient’. I rang the surgery (after a hold of 13 patients in the telephone queue) and the receptionist could not explain why and advised me to register elsewhere. I have since done this. Today, I took my completed form to my new surgery and the lady on the desk registered me immediately (despite expectation of 24-48 hours). She then rang me within an hour to book me in for my smear. All same day. I have never complained to Abbeywell surgery about my concerns as I know how much pressure the office staff are under and how restricted things can be at the moment. However, I felt it necessary to leave a review, particularly when I have had such a positive experience elsewhere.
