It’s important to say that I have loved A.Wong for a long time - well before the coveted Michelin stars. I went last night with a friend for dinner and the food was really wonderful, we both agreed that it was the best tasting menu we’ve had - light and balanced, delicious dishes and wonderful flavours. BUT (there is always a but) 1. The plentiful staff came over multiple times to our table to ask how our journey was going. At times interrupting our conversation. Bearing in mind there are multiple courses of dishes, which are explained at table side I feel like any additional interruption should be kept to a minimum. 2. The inclusion of the iPad showing chef making noodles did nothing to enhance our experience and in fact, just felt awkward and a bit gimmicky. Unnecessary (in the main because the video is incredibly short, bad quality and doesn’t show the process wholly - because that would take hours!!) 3. Dessert in the Forbidden City. What amounts to a badly decorated, badly lit freezing cold dungeon. We left the atmosphere and ambiance and were taken downstairs to a curtained room that feels a bit temporary and ill thought out. Essentially we were relocated to allow for the next diners - essentially making the process seem… a bit conveyor belt esq. There is ZERO doubt that Chef Wongs talents are boundless in terms of his food. Removing the gimmicks and add ins and letting the food speak for itself would really elevate this experience. If none of the add ins had happened this review would literally be a raving review about how incredible the food is.

I recently had the pleasure of experiencing the 3 and a half hour vegetarian menu at A Wong Chinese restaurant, and I must say it was an absolute delight from start to finish! As a vegetarian, finding a restaurant that can create an extraordinary dining experience centered around plant-based cuisine can be a challenge, but A Wong exceeded all expectations. The menu showcased the chef's creativity and expertise in combining traditional Chinese flavors with innovative vegetarian ingredients. Each course was a work of art, beautifully presented and bursting with vibrant colors. It was evident that great care was taken in selecting the freshest produce to craft dishes that were both visually stunning and incredibly delicious. The variety of flavors and textures throughout the meal was truly remarkable. From delicate dumplings filled with a medley of vegetables to hearty stir-fried tofu with fragrant spices, every bite was a delightful surprise. The balance of flavors was impeccable, with hints of sweetness, umami, and a touch of heat that tantalized the taste buds. What impressed me the most was the restaurant's commitment to showcasing the diversity of vegetarian cuisine. Each dish paid homage to different regional Chinese culinary traditions, offering a journey through the country's rich food heritage. It was a unique opportunity to explore the flavors of China through a vegetarian lens, and I felt like I was embarking on a culinary adventure with every course. The service was top-notch, with knowledgeable staff members who were passionate about the menu and provided insightful descriptions of each dish. They were also attentive to any dietary restrictions or preferences, ensuring a personalized dining experience. While the 3 and a half hour duration may seem lengthy, it only added to the overall experience. It allowed ample time to savor each dish, engage in conversation, and truly appreciate the artistry and craftsmanship that went into creating this extraordinary vegetarian menu. A Wong Chinese restaurant has undoubtedly raised the bar when it comes to vegetarian dining. I highly recommend this dining experience to both vegetarians and non-vegetarians alike who appreciate exceptional cuisine, impeccable service, and a truly memorable culinary journey. It's an absolute gem that deserves all five stars and more!

Quite simply the most fabulous “explore new flavor experiences” meal we’ve had in a long time. We eat at multiple M* restaurants per year when we travel as a way of trying new food ideas and flavors and this one is now our favorite in a the last couple years.

(Translated by Google) An excellent restaurant, a more relaxed and friendly atmosphere than a starred restaurant in France, but just as good service. The cuisine was undoubtedly the determining criterion, a big congratulations to the chef and the kitchen! Allow 3.5-4 hours for a budget of £250 (+£100/200 for wine) per guest. Enjoy! Enjoy!

A friend and I chose A Wong as a place to have a special meal together after years of not seeing each other. We requested the Collections of China tasting menu and were excited to experience it. However, our experience quickly shifted from excitement to disbelief to utter disappointment. 1. We were offered a non-alcoholic pairing for the meal. We were led to believe this was included in the cost of the meal, which of course it is not. This is secondary. More importantly, the non-alcoholic pairing was simply a collection of store bought carbonated drinks that had no direct pairing to any of the dishes we were served and no relevance whatsoever to the menu. The amount we were charged for what was essentially soda water and flavoring was completely inappropriate. 2. The staff were pleasant and attentive but the overall lack of cleanliness and care in the serving of the meal was surprising. The sommelier’s hands were filthy. There was dirt packed under his nails as he served us our drinks. Additionally, our server constantly touched the inside of our plates and our cutlery with his fingers as he explained the meal, places we would either put our food and our mouths. Plates were almost tossed on the table, drinks were spilled, food was placed so roughly on the table the plating of the dish was upset. This was not an isolated instance. It was consistent throughout the meal. It felt rushed, chaotic, and sloppy. 3. Regarding the quality of the menu itself, all I can say is that there was nothing remarkable or memorable about it for us. We came looking forward to experience a carefully crafted menu celebrating the diversity and complexity of Chinese cuisine and we were underwhelmed by almost every stage of the meal. The food itself was never warm, with the exception of one dish which was scalding hot and which we were advised to eat immediately. The truffle was tasteless, the chicken was cold and dry, the vegetables were bruised and wilted. The servers constantly spoke of how much effort the preparation of each dish required but in all honesty, the absence of care was what was most apparent. Unlike the previous points, this is merely an opinion and may hold very little weight. Nonetheless, if the meal had been even mildly enjoyable, I would not bother to write this review. It is a unique and intriguing concept AND the experience itself was unremarkable and terribly overpriced. I sent an email to A Wong with this feedback. I did not receive any acknowledgment from them.

Where to begin, amazing welcome, freindly and attentive service, spectacular food meticulously created with fusion flavours that finally gave me that WOW factor I'd searched for and never quite gotten (other Michelin resteraunts focus on consistency and not on flavours!) This was my last ditch effort and thank goodness we went here. Yes, the price is high. But when the truffle 'shavings' are as big as 50p coins it definitely feels like we got what we paid for -a special dining experience. Will definitely be returning. Thanks Chef Wong! (Sorry I called you Andrew my partner told me off afterwards for that)

Preposterous restaurant - overpriced and pretentious. We were persuaded to eat here by friends and left £600 poorer and over fed on the “taste of China”. Some of the dishes were enjoyable and well-presented, but 25+ courses is far too many and takes far too long (nearly 4 hours). Totally frustrating since we had no ability to order a la carte or opt out when we wanted to say enough!
