We were visiting Winchester for the weekend and found this wonderful attraction about the Saxons It is very interactive but fun and informative and lasts for about 45 minutes. You then have access to a fantastic app that you take around the City and it highlights areas and what they would have looked like during the Saxon period Well worth a visit!!

It’s just not big enough to justify the price paid. It’s essentially are large room, half of which is taken up by a video wall. The information displays are disjointed, lack any logical flow and often seem to be more about advertising a computer game. It had the feeling of a temporary exhibition. The couple of actors worked really hard to lift it but it is what it is, a large room with some notice boards and a few interactive displays. The information was also pretty basic in my view and didn’t really explain why 878 was so important after all or it’s legacy. We all left pretty flat saying “is that it?”. The app was ok at best. We found it rather fiddly, it hammers your battery power and after a few stops we gave up and just enjoyed admiring the magnificent architecture on display around the cathedral area.

Thought the place was genuinely brilliant. Loved the intro and outro vids but they are not of course the main appeal. For me it was about learning more about a part of England that is only really up the road from me and it ties in with a fantastic game series. If you are not a fan of Assassin's Creed I personally do not know why you would attend. I would post photos but I think that would take from the experience you can have. The ability to go all year with your ticket is great and we will definitely be going again. Best part: The Live action acting experience. Being shouted at by the Reave who reacted personally to me and my wife's professions was brilliant. Try telling someone from 878AD that you work in energy industry. I was made out to be stupid and my wife who works in medical was praised and told she would be needed in the upcoming battlefield! Gift shop is also great, brilliant value and I look forward to hanging my AC Framed Print. 10/10 or 5/5. Thanks all :)
