FAQ

How does your school approach special education and accommodations for diverse learners?

At 1st Sea School, we are committed to providing inclusive education for all students. We work closely with parents and outside professionals to identify and address the individual needs of students with special education requirements. Our teachers are trained to provide accommodations and modifications to our curriculum to support diverse learners in achieving their academic goals.

What extracurricular activities or programs does your school offer?

1st Sea School offers a variety of extracurricular activities and programs to our students. As a sailing school, we offer sailing lessons and training as well as other water-based activities. We also offer a range of sports and hobbies such as football, basketball, and music lessons. Our school also has various clubs and organizations, such as the student council, that students can join.

What is the length of the school day and year, and how does it compare to traditional public schools?

Our school day typically runs from 9 am to 3 pm, and our academic year consists of 190 days. This is similar to the traditional public school schedule in the United Kingdom. However, our school has a unique focus on sailing and water-based activities, which makes our curriculum and schedule different from most traditional public schools.

What is the student-to-instructor ratio in your classes?

At 1st Sea School, we pride ourselves on our small class sizes and low student-to-instructor ratio. Our class sizes typically range from 6-12 students, and we have at least one instructor for every class. This ensures that our students receive individualized attention and support from our teachers.

What is your cancellation policy for classes and what happens in case of bad weather?

We understand that unforeseen circumstances may arise that require the cancellation of classes. In such cases, we offer a full refund or rescheduling of classes. In the event of bad weather, we closely monitor the forecast and will cancel classes if necessary for the safety of our students and instructors. We will notify parents and students as soon as possible in case of any cancellations.

We contacted 1st Sea School trying to book a RYA Powerboat Level 2 course and they managed to fit us in at short notice. The school is owned and run by Cliff who is passionate enough about his subject to make sure all bases are covered and no short cuts taken. As complete beginners, we learned enough to be competent beginners and had good fun on the journey. I would highly recommend Cliff and his school if you need any training as you can be sure it will be of high quality. He's pretty good at making tea and coffee too!
